Can't find the app you need? Build it yourself!

My favorite story this week is about an accountant who couldn’t find the budgeting app he wanted for his clients, so he built it himself using developers hired on the freelancing site UpWork.
This sort of do-it-yourself software development is only possible thanks to the public APIs built into all the top cloud accounting platforms. Recently I spoke with Chris Rose, VP of Business Development at Sage Intacct, about this topic on the Cloud Accounting Podcast. Take a listen and learn from Chris about how cloud ERPs enable third-party integrations that save organizations lots of time.
At FloQast we make close management software that integrates with ERPs such as Sage Intacct. One of biggest challenges we face is not competition, but the fact that most accountants have no idea what close management software even is. So I wrote a blog post about it! Check out “What is Close Management Software?” to learn more.
A big selling point of our solution is that we integrate with your existing Excel reconciliation workbooks. In the spirit of helping our fellow accountants get more proficient with Excel, we’ve partnered with Jim Cline of ExcelCEO to offer a free two-part CPE webinar on May 22 and 24 featuring his top Excel tips and tricks. Jim is also writing a series of blog posts for us — check out his first tip about using the Format Painter here for a sneak peak at the lessons he’ll be teaching in the webinar.
As always, here’s my personally curated collection of the best links I clicked on this past week.
