Intuit CEO Brad Smith steps down after a decade guiding a cloud transformation 🌤

Cloud Accounting Weekly is now Own Your Close, a newsletter for management accountants, controllers, and providers of outsourced accounting services. For more accounting technology updates, tune in to the Cloud Accounting Podcast.

Good morning!
The big news from this past week is that Intuit CEO Brad Smith will step down at end of year. Under his leadership, Intuit’s earnings tripled and revenue doubled.
And as David and I discussed on the latest episode of the Cloud Accounting Podcast, Brad Smith successfully transformed Intuit from a desktop-based software developer to a global cloud platform. Pretty amazing for a tenure that lasted just over a decade!
Speaking of cloud platforms, it’s clear (to me, anyway) that platforms are the future of accounting software and ERPs. Platforms bring huge advantages, but also challenges — the biggest challenge for accountants being that you have to learn about lots of apps if you want to leverage best-in-class solutions to integrate with your general ledger.
To help you get started with building your accounting “app stack,” here’s my list of “11 Easy Automation Wins for Accounting Teams,” a selection of solutions you can plug into your GL that we’ve seen our most successful clients use and what we use ourselves at FloQast.
Finally, as we approach 100 issues of Cloud Accounting Weekly (!), I’m going to be switching things up. In addition to a name change, you’ll start to see more content geared specifically for management accountants, controllers, and firms providing outsourced financial accounting services to their clients.
I’ll be splitting out the “industry insider” type news that’s more of interest to consultants and developers into a separate distribution list. When that happens, you’ll get a separate email to confirm whether or not you’d like to also join that list.
For more of the best cloud accounting links I clicked on this past week, keep on scrolling.
